2007 Siegerrebe award:
GOLD "Grand Award of Excellence"
First Place in Division at Seattle Wine Awards, May 2008.
San Juan Vineyards was established in 1996 when the property was purchased, the vineyard planted, and the old schoolhouse was renovated. San Juan Vineyards was on its way to becoming a destination winery with the winery building, chapel and other buildings constructed in early 1998.
San Juan Vineyards was started by Steve and Yvonne Swanberg and Tim Judkins along with daughter, Madison.
Steve was a big part of the overall operation of San Juan Vineyards. He lost his fight with Prostate Cancer in May of 2006, and he is missed daily.
San Juan Vineyards is the island’s only vineyard and winery. We produce and bottle 4000 plus cases a year with production from our vineyard of Madeleine Angevine, Siegerrebe, and a bit of Pinot Noir. The other fruit comes from the grape-growing regions of Eastern WA, primarily the Columbia Valley.
The tasting room and gift shop fill the old schoolhouse known as Sportsman's Lake Schoolhouse No. 22 in the historical records. It was built in 1896, and used as a schoolhouse until 1915. Browse through the gifts and wine-related items, taste the wines at our tasting bar, and enjoy the ambiance of our sunny deck while sipping a glass of San Juan Vineyard's wine.
Our winemaker is Chris Primus, and he joined San Juan Vineyards in August of 2006. Chris has made some outstanding wines since he joined us, and is most known for his outstanding Siegerrebe.
